Richard Champion (1743–1791), porcelain maker

In 1773 Richard Champion acquired the porcelain works in Castle Green together with the patent for the manufacture of true, or hard-paste, porcelain from William Cookworthy. The factory made mainly teawares and figures but the venture was short-lived. Financial difficulties forced Champion to sell the patent in 1781 and a year later he emigrated to America.
