Colonel Rolleston’s car was delivered from the Bristol Motor Company
in 1906. It was similar to the carriage it replaced. Its body was custom-made by coachbuilders but instead of being driven by a coachman, it was driven by a chauffeur until it was sold in about 1920. In 2006 there were about five times more cars in Bristol than there had been in the whole of Great Britain when the Colonel’s car was made.
